The first Stage of any edition of the Tour de France is always a spectacular event. But this is the 100th edition of this legendary race ... AND it is being held in stunning Corsica for the first time ever ... AND it travels through the beautiful cliff-top citadel of Bonifacio ...

I couldn’t have dreamed for a better start to the Tour de France, this 100th edition. With a beautiful sunrise I set off from Porto Vecchio at 6am and set out on the route that took me up the eastern coastline of Corsica. The first 60km was the best part, with a loop down to Bonifacio and back to Porto Vecchio, in perfect conditions and astonishing coastal scenery.
